Are you behind in your field of study? Do you have general education coursework you need to complete? Either way, EKU's Summer session has you covered with the classes you need. We asked EKU grad student, Eyouel Mekonnen, why he’s taken summer courses with EKU.

1. More Time to Relax and Focus

During the Summer, you can create a schedule that works best for you. This allows you to focus on your classes while also being able to relax without the obligations of a full course load. Take it from students like Eyouel. He said, “When you take summer courses, you will quickly realize that it is very different from a regular semester. I was able to get invested in the classes I took, because I had more time and fewer obligations. I was not as busy, which made focusing on my coursework and earning a good grade considerably easier.”

2. Get Hands-On Work Experience with a Summer Co-Op Course

Eyouel said “Summer classes didn’t just help academically. During the Summer 2021 term, I did an internship as a summer co-op course, and I was able to get professional experience and 3-credit-hours closer to graduation.”

Not only are classes available to you, but you can also take internship opportunities that could give you up to 3 credit hours! Gain professional experience to help prepare for your future career while getting closer to graduation. Talk with your advisor to see what options might be available for you.

3. Create Stronger Relationships with Professors

When asked what he likes most about the Summer term, Eyouel said, “I like that my professors are more available during the Summer term. I was able to get more time with my professors and built great relationships with them as a result.”
