Summer Scholarship Helps Student Focus on School

EKU Summer -

Summer Scholar Lazim Islam was a fifth-year senior at EKU studying network security, of which he likes to say “we are taught how to hack, but then told not to.” The native of Bangladesh started at Berea College in 2014, but then transferred to EKU.

So how much has the Summer Scholarship helped Islam? “A lot,” he said, “because otherwise I would have to take out more loans or work more hours. Now, I can concentrate more on studying.”

He also has free time to spend on constructive hobbies, like reading for fun. More profitably, he enjoys trading stocks. “Some days I'll make more money than at my actual work,” he said.

About Summer Scholars

The Summer Scholars program is a collaboration between EKU’s Diversity Office, Summer Committee, Student Financial Assistance office and the Noel Studio for Academic Creativity. It was founded in Summer 2018. Visit the Summer Scholars page for more information.
